THE MISSION OF BELLA MUSICA, a community chamber chorus based in Berkeley, is to provide rewarding musical and educational experiences for chorus members and audiences alike within the greater San Francisco Bay Area. We embrace a wide range of vocal repertoire from traditions medieval to modern, including well-known to newly-composed works. Our singers come from diverse backgrounds and the East Bay communities at large, and are dedicated to offering the highest caliber of performances at reasonable prices. Our concerts often feature local soloists, instrumentalists and composers.
We are guided by these principles:
- That Bella Musica is a chorus where we provide rewarding and challenging musical and educational opportunities within a welcoming, supportive and caring community of like-minded singers.
- That weekly rehearsing, personal practicing and partaking of educational opportunities on the part of the Bella membership yields an enhanced understanding of the music for both singers and audiences.
- That we consistently strive for in-depth exploring and understanding of each composer’s intent and the music’s historical background within the context of the musical practices of the era of composition.
